We will cast our votes for Congress and the Presidency a week from today. If you’re still trying to make up your mind about how to vote, remember to ask your candidates the following questions about where they stand on Alzheimer’s issues:
Congress required the creation of a National Alzheimer’s Plan.
- How will you work to implement the first ever Alzheimer’s Plan that was reported to Congress this year?
- To support the goals of the Plan, will you support an additional $100 million for Alzheimer’s research and programs in next year’s federal budget?
- As my elected official, will you make Alzheimer’s a national priority by implementing a strong national Alzheimer’s plan, including support for policies and funding that will hasten the discovery of medical breakthroughs to treat or prevent Alzheimer’s disease?
By 2050, there will be as many as 16 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and millions more will be caring for someone with the disease. As a nation, we will spend $20 trillion dollars on Alzheimer’s care alone by 2050.
- Will you support smart and strategic spending today to improve care and treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and reduce both the human suffering and economic costs that this disease will cause?
Currently, less than 50% of people with Alzheimer’s get a diagnosis, which complicates care for the other conditions they may be living with and increases healthcare costs. In addition, care plans for people with Alzheimer’s can reduce caregiver stress and delay nursing home stays, which reduces healthcare costs.
- Will you support the HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act, which will improve diagnosis and care planning for people and families living with Alzheimer’s Disease?
