Are you prepared to get Alzheimer’s?

A new TED Talk was recently released and the subject was Alzheimer’s disease. For those who might not know, TED talks are usually geared towards Technology, Entertainment and Design. This particular talk wasn’t about new technologies in diagnosing Alzheimer’s or high-tech ways to engineer a new treatment. In fact, this talk is far from the usual TED talks. But it is nonetheless innovative, thought provoking and poignant.

Caregivers and others who work with people with Alzheimer’s and dementia sometimes talk about how we might be if we develop some form of dementia. I don’t like to sit for long periods of time so my husband knows that if I develop a form of dementia, I will want to be active or outside as much as possible. On the other hand, he is much happier resting comfortably, so I know that I should put the cat in his lap and let him be content in his chair. Knowing ourselves and our loved ones may ease some of the challenges of the journey and that learning can begin now.

Rather than dive too deeply into an analysis of Alanna’s talk, I’ll let you watch and consider: How would you prepare for Alzheimer’s?
